Commercial business rates are a tax on all commercial land and buildings and are payable even if the property is empty unless the rateable value is below the threshold.
The current business rating system allows for all commercial properties to be re-valued usually every 5 years. The last revaluation was April 2017. Current rateable values of commercial properties are based on rental values as at April 2015.
There is an opportunity to appeal a property valuation at any time within the 5 year periods and successful appeals may be backdated.
