A tax on all commercial land and buildings

The current system allows for all commercial properties to be re-valued every 5 years. The next re-valuation will be for April 2010, although the rental values attributable will be based on rental levels in April 2008.

There is an opportunity to appeal a property valuation at any time within the 5 year periods and successful appeals may be backdated.

ALL OWNERS & OCCUPIERS PLEASE REMEMBER- the government is trying to bring about wholesale changes to the ‘empty rates’ system and is likely to be charging full rates even if the property is empty from April 2008.
